Dean Macey's Olympic dreams are over (0)

July 14, 2008

Dean Macey will drag his much-battered body back to Canvey Island, Essex, to spend more time with his fish after his last-ditch attempt to make it to Beijing ended in failure.

The decathlete tried to defy the taunt of time to record a qualifying total at a combined events competition in Hexham. He needed 8000 points, but struggled to make it round in the 1500 metres and finished a disgruntled figure, sitting on the track with 7491 points and a lost dream.

Now the 30-year-old is considering retirement after enduring a lengthy battle against injury. “I now need to make a decision regarding my future,” he said. “In the next week or two I’ll make an announcement.”
