Long Jump
Eusebio Cáceres jumped 7.81. That means a 10th place in the all time lists. It’s impressive what Cáceres is doing. He’s 175 cm tall. Not many athletes with his height will try combined events nor will they compete at that level. Later he jumped an indoor pb of 8.08 on 19 02 2011. Last summer he jumped 8.27 outdoors. On that occasion he had 9.8cm to spare at his take off! Look out for Ashtons long jump because his second try was a no risk jump and according to spectators who had a close look at that attempt he had 40 or 50 cm to spare. What will he do in Götzis this year?

High Jump
Canadian Derek Drouin jumped 2.23, a height equal to the world record in heptathlon from Igor Samylov in 1987 twenty four years ago. Samylov didn’t jump higher but Derek can actually break the record in the future and become the only world record holder. He jumped one month later a national record of 2.33 in Texas!

60 m hurdles
Earlier this season he already showed he was in good shape by running the hurdles in a time of 7.64. Eatons time for the hurdles in Tallin was even more impressive when you think that at that time only six professional 60 m hurdles runners in the world had run a better time! The previous world record was 7.74 from Bryan Clay .

Pole vault
Today, when it comes to the pole vault, there’s only one name in combined events for that specific event. Eelco Sintnicolaas from the Netherlands jumped this winter 5.52 in February in Apeldoorn. Would he be able to get close to that height again in the heptathlon? Yes, in Paris he jumped 5.50 and tried to improve his record to 5.60 but didn’t clear that height.

1000 meters
World record holder Curtis Beach (2 27.88) ran the third best time for the last event in heptathlon history. The only other heptathlete that ever ran a time under two and a half minutes is Joe Detmer (2 29.42). As we can see in the tables David Klech is an athlete to keep an eye on. With 2829 points for the running events in one heptathlon, he was only 3 points away of a second all time position behind invincible Ashton Eaton who brought his world record points total from 2985 in the running (from 2010) to 3025 in 2011.

Age records
Roman Sebrle! We all know now that he is not from planet earth! Yes he did it again. European championships Bronze at the age of 36 in Paris with 6178 points. And an absolute world age record in heptathlon (36 years 3 months 8 days). Sebrle is also the only man on the planet to have done 21 times 6000 points or more in a heptathlon. (Second to him is Erki Nool with 13 times 6000+). Meanwhile Belgian Thomas van der Plaetsen did an absolute European age record in heptathlon (20 years 2months 10 days).
