Roman Sebrle! - the man is a living legend. Some of us saw him in Götzis in 2001 when he was the first man on the planet to smash the 9000 barrier. Ever since in one way or another his presence threw a shadow on the other athletes. The New York Times chose him in 2008 when there was a discussion about “who to send to intergalactic games” if that would have been possible! “A panel of five sports scientists and exercise physiologists was given a list drawn up by the Journal of 79 male athletes.
Candidates had to be active in their sport and among the all-time best …The judges graded athletes on speed, reflexes, stamina, coordination, as well as power, strength and size.”” The finalists, they said, exhibited a wide range of athletic skill in highly competitive environments.” First was Roman Sebrle followed by LeBron James. “Mr. Sebrle could jump over Shaquille O'Neal and throw a 16-pound ball the length of a 53-foot (16 meters) yacht. From a running start, he could leap over a two-lane highway”. The judges said “Mr. Sebrle has ideal size.” The final category “examined success, records held and victories, as well as competitive-ness, based on the sport's popularity.” Ashton Eaton broke his world record and is and will be an exceptional decathlete, there’s no doubt about that, but what are a few things that makes Roman Sebrle so special? Let us have a look at some of his unofficial world records(*). Or can we call them official?
