Sebrle aims to break the Heptathlon World indoor record this winter (0)

For a fourth year in a row World Decathlon record holder Roman Sebrle, has been crowned the King of Czech athletics.

Sebrle, who will turn 31-years-old this week (on 26 November 2005), won the European Indoor title, the silver medal at World Championships in Helsinki, and with two other important wins in Götzis and Talence, confirmed his IAAF World Ranking as the number one Combined Event athlete this year.

He won the national 'Athlete of the Year' vote based on an electorate of 100 officials, coaches, and journalists, and nearly took the maximum of first place scores.

“It is always very nice to be the winner, I hope next year I will have a tougher competition (for the title),” confirmed Sebrle. “I’m now in a totally different position than last year. My first training camp in the High Tatras in Slovakia is already behind me, I’m feeling well and I am in full training. This Wednesday I am flying to my usual training camp in Potchefstroom, South Africa.”

“My ultimate goal is to repeat my Olympic win in Beijing. On the road to it I will of course compete at all major events. For example, this winter I want to break the Heptathlon World record. It will not be easy, but I will do my best. I’m healthy and full of new energy and motivation.”
