Incredible statistics. Some great decathletes biographies were forgotten. Names likes Frank Busemann, chris huffins and others. I would like to see junior scouting articles to know where my favorite track event is going.

Teen ettepaneku Skulptuur rajada Kadrioru staadionile vaikses kohas puude varjus kümmnevõistlejale Erki Noolele. Kalevipoja võiks ära jätta. Sellist visaduse eeskuju tuleb jäädvustada Eesti Vabariigi ajaloos!

What a great site about DEC! I'm a DEC fever, but, you know,it is a cold event in China.I tried my best to find some info concerning DEC and HEP in Chinese web,but very dissapointed!
Occasionally,i found your web through IAAF.ORG.
Would you mind adding some biographes of famous players who are cmpetiting nowadays ,like Roman Sebrle,Tomas Dvorak,Dean Macey...? By the way,Chinese Qi Haifeng broke the national record with 8030 on 09.06.2002 in Benxi.
Good luck forever!

tervitus... väga väga väga asjalik veebilehekülg teil, siit ja eriti sealtpoolt piiri saabunud tunnustusele ei oskagi midagi lisada. küll on mul ettepanek, et võimaluse korral palun riputage üles götzise, talence jne võitjad läbi aegade. nt alguses tabel senistest võitjatest + põhjalikum statistika iga aasta kohta (nagu praegu viimaste aastate kohta). götzises peeti esimene võistlus vist 1974 või 1975.

Hi,
I am a Swedish long jumper (not a very good one, though). I have also, together with a friend, developed a Decathlon game for Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance. It’s called Fila Decathlon (Decathlon Advance in the U.S.) and you can check it out on the publisher’s site www.thq.de
If you like video games, you really should check it out. It is the only decathlon game ever, that has been designed by someone who knows a lot about athletics and the decathlon so it is very realistic. It is actually very much like the real decathlon, the only difference is that it tests the athletic ability of your fingers instead of your body! I also tried to include information about how the events are executed in real life and about the physical qualities that are required. I believe that many non-athletes will learn a lot about athletics and the decathlon by playing the game.
All the current elite athletes is included, but I have misspelled their names on purpose. For example Erki Nool is called E Cool and Roman Sebrle is called R Cebrle. Erki has actually played the game as he is sponsored by Fila!
Best wishes,
Anders Hansson

Keep going this way!

Who has the greatest athletic country?

Who is the world greatest athletic country? Russia? Sweden? Czech Republic? USA? One competition will decide it - International Gladiator Challenge.

This unique competition will finally find out which country has the greatest athletes. It is well known that the winner of the decathlon is dubbed the "Worlds Greatest Athlete", and the International Gladiator Challenge will determine the country with the best athletes. This competition will be a shortened version (4-6 hours) of a decathlon (usually 2 days) using three athletes. Each athlete will compete in a run (e.g. 100 m dash), jump (high jump) and a throw (discus). The highest winning score for the event is titled "The World's Greatest Athletic Country". This event is currently scheduled for June 2002 in Albuquerque, NM, USA. Initial sponsorship packages are being printed, details of the competition are in the web page - sign up yourself or a team. To participate in this event please contact me immediately.

Please forward this information to your athletes, coaches, trainers and athletic clubs.

Dudley Ristow makes an interesting point in his 11/8/01 message, where he notes Sebrle's total percentage of personal bests for one decathlon. This viewpoint does account for a certain measure of athletic efficiency.

However, there are problems with looking at this factor. Assume the decathlete's previous bests were relatively weak, totaling 6000 points. Then he improves on his personal on several of his bests and scores a 6,300-point decathlon, which is not so uncommon for up-and-coming decathletes. Then this decathlete would perform at 105%, which is better Sebrle's 98.7%. On the other hand, let's say that someone else's personal bests totaled 9,750, and he scored a 9,250, which is only 94.9% of his total personal bests but a staggering 224 points, or 2.5% better than Sebrle's world record. Wouldn't this performance have more value than Sebrle's 98.7%? I think a far better way to judge decathlon efficiency is to total the all-time personal bests for any decathlete who performed the mark en route to an Olympic- or World-Championship qualifying total score. (I believe that the standard is 8,050 points.) This standard would eliminate shot putters who heave the shot 20 meters but run only 14-second 100 meters, and distance runners who clock 3:40 for the 1,500 but long jump 5 meters.

Janek, if you get a chance, can you get those numbers and add the stat to all the decathletes listed in Decathlon2000?

Previous message ...read 98.67 per cent. Read sometime
ago that the 9000 decathlon was comparable to Bannister
running the first under 4 minute mile. Given a world in which the scorings don't change i wonder if the world will ever see a 10000 decathlon?

Great win by Dvorak. Also a great PB performance by
Erki Nool who sadly i now think has entered - age-wise - the winter of his decathlons (sorry Erki fans!)with Sebrle holding an edge there over Dvorak. Shared a stat with Janek the other day: take Sebrle's top
decath 9026 divide by this his PBs total of 9147 and you have a performance there of 98.67% of his best. Awesome ! Especially since the Decathlon remains a competition against oneself as much as against your
competitors. Don't think anyone has topped that - with the great Thompson and Hingsen managing 94.98% and 94.73% respectively.

Congratulations are in order: to Tomas Dvorak for a third straight world championship and the third-best decathlon score ever; to Erki Nool and Dean Macey for also medalling and for achieving personal bests; and to Decathlon2000, without which the United States would have no immediate, in-depth coverage of this ultimate athletics contest. Keep up the great work, Janek Salmistu!
